About Us
Filiberto Leon was born and
raised in Oaxaca, Mexico.
He came to work in the United States when he was 17 years
old and worked at various jobs,
including cooking at a Mexican Restaurant. One day, his luck
changed when he met Wayne Murty, a horse breeder from
Kentucky, who happened to see Filiberto in line
at a bank and asked him
if he was a jockey.

Filiberto told him that he
was not a jockey, but he did grow up riding horses in Mexico
and it was a dream of his to have the opportunity. So Wayne
offered him the opportunity; he told Filiberto to come with
him to his farm in Kentucky and work for him, in exchange he
would teach and prepare him for the world of Horse Racing.
It took a lot of hard work and patience, but after starting
his career in Behluah Park, Ohio, Filiberto headed for the
more prestigious racetracks of New York and enjoyed a good
career.
After starting a family, Filiberto started to think more about the future, knowing
that you can only do well for so long as a jockey. Another
dream would be to open a Mexican Restaurant and what a
better place to do than beautiful Saratoga Springs. Filiberto had been riding the last ten years at the Saratoga
Meet and recognized that Saratoga lacked good Mexican
Cuisine. After looking around for a few months for a place
to open, Filiberto hung up his tack and moved with his
family to Saratoga Springs. So, here's our place, Leon's, a
family run establishment that prides ourselves on hard work
and providing good Mexican food and service to people in a
comfortable atmosphere.
The
horses will always be a big part of Filiberto's life; they
afforded him this opportunity to become a part of the
community of Saratoga Springs.
